GmailChecker

Why another Gmail checker?  Well I couldn't find one that did exactly what I wanted.  Here were the features I wanted:

• No notification window showing who the message is from or the subject (annoying to me and potentially embarrassing).

• Taskbar icon that I can click on to see the message summary: who each unread message is from and the first part of the subject (using the gmail RSS feed).

So I created my own simple GmailChecker.  Screenshots below.

Note: the gmail account password is stored in cleartext.

Installation instructions:

GmailChecker was created with Visual C# Express, which has the ability to create an installer.  However, the installation is a bit awkward - you will need to extract the zip file to a local directory and then click the setup.exe in the directory.
